The Chair - Woodend banner

Woodend Beach is patrolled by professional Lifeguards over summer for the 6 weeks of the primary school holidays. For the remainder of the year the tower is unused and has been designed to resemble a large deck chair – a piece of oversized beach furniture that acts as a piece of sculpture in the landscape. The ‘Chair’ provides panoramic views up and down Woodend Beach while providing shelter and a base for the 3 lifeguards on patrol.

The tower is accessed via a ladder that the lifeguards collect from the neighbouring camping ground each morning and carry over the sand dunes. The yellow and red colour stripped colour scheme identifies it as a lifeguard facility that contrasts with the often grey environment it sits in.

About the

Wilson & Hill Architects are committed to providing architecture of
a high calibre. We are driven by a consistent philosophical approach, not a predetermined style. We embrace modernist architecture, striving to produce clean, spacious and light designs.

At ArchiPro we recognise and acknowledge the existing, original and ancient connection Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples have to the lands and waterways across the Australian continent. We pay our respects to the elders past and present. We commit to working together to build a prosperous and inclusive Australia.
