Japara Healthcare

Japara Healthcare provide round the-clock residential care for people who are no longer able to live independently. It comprises of a 120-bed facility plus basement carparking over four levels, despite a council height limit of three. This has been achieved through smart design that follows the contours of the site and utilises astute stacking and massing concepts.

designing a new model of aging in place

Adjacent to Newport Lakes with external distant vistas towards Port Phillip Bay, the facility is imbued with a sense of space and calm. Natural light and air penetrate all areas of the building, and generous connections provide direct access to the landscape.

A welcoming entry lobby opens to a central avenue, with expansive views through the facility leading to the Newport Lakes beyond. High-end amenities located off this main thoroughfare include a theatre, café, hair salon, library and bar, presenting opportunities for mingling between residents as well as accommodating social activities.

The model of care implemented at the facility involves bedroom clusters of 15, with wings designed around these numbers and hosting individual nursing stations, lounge and dining areas. Resident rooms come in four styles, all designed for comfort, health and wellbeing. With views in all directions from the higher levels, over Newport Lakes to the north and the Bay and city to the south.

The design of Trugo Place does much more than provide a physical space that supports services and functions, it creates a new model of aging in place, inspiring and uplifting residents, visitors, locals and workers alike.
