The Wellington City Mission’s new base, Whakamaru, stands out both as a transformative community facility and as an innovative hybrid engineered timber and steel structure. Highlighting the use of X-Tend Tensile Mesh as both a structural and architectural feature
SRS Group was engaged in an Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) role with Three Line Studio, supporting the design and engineering phase of Wellington City Mission, alongside Ronstan Tensile Architecture and Tensys. The result? A seamless integration of X-Tend mesh that not only met the architectural vision but elevated it.
From three-storey atria voids to stairwell cables and full-height tensile mesh barriers, including external green walls, our team delivered precision installation for Naylor Love , backed by world-class engineering.
Whakamaru isn’t just a structure—it’s a living embodiment of connection, care, and purpose.
Its open, light-filled design fosters meaningful interactions between people and spaces, echoing the values of the Wellington City Mission and supporting their mission to turn compassion into tangible impact.
