Project overview
Working with Woodhams Meikle Zhan Architects and Watts & Hughes Construction (project main contractor), The Concrete Polishers from Christchurch have successfully completed the polished concrete floor project following the installation of a newly laid, brand new concrete floor for the first newly-built Woolworths store. Using beautiful local aggregate, the approximately 2800 square metre area is finished with the Husqvarna Superfloor Platinum system resulting in a smooth, even floor with high aggregate exposure and unmatched resistance to wear.
Project Details:
Green Approach:
Having previously worked with Countdown (Woolworths) on a 4-star Greenstar store, Watts & Hughes Construction is delighted to have been a part of this next-level project that demonstrates environmentally green building practices. To achieve 5-Star Greenstar goals, construction materials used – from timber to concrete – had to be checked to ensure they were from a sustainable source.
Consistent Finish:
Following a curing period of 14-21 days from freshly poured concrete, The Concrete Polishers meticulously executed the project, beginning with the initial grinding of the concrete surface by 5mm to achieve full stone exposure. After a couple of months, a uniform 800 grit finish was applied to ensure consistency across the entire floor. This process was seamlessly integrated with the construction timeline, demonstrating the team's commitment to quality and efficiency.
Enhanced Features:
The Husqvarna Superfloor Platinum finish applied by The Concrete Polishers not only enhances the aesthetic appeal of the floor but also provides practical benefits. Ideal for public spaces and retail environments, the highly polished surface offers durability, easy maintenance, and environmental sustainability.
Conclusion:
Watts and Hughes Construction, in collaboration with The Concrete Polishers, is proud to have contributed to the realisation of Woolworths' vision for a sustainable future. This project exemplifies Woolworths' dedication to environmental responsibility and sets a new standard for green building practices in New Zealand. The seamless integration of innovative construction techniques and sustainable materials underscores the commitment of all involved parties to creating a positive impact on the community and the planet.
