L3 Home, a furniture wholesaler and distributor, was born from a desire to create something truly unique in the Australian furniture market. The founders, originally entrenched in the B2B sector, supplied furniture to major e-commerce brands across Australia.
However, the team soon felt the need to express their creativity and work directly with consumers and designers. As they describe, "We wanted a platform where we could show our own creativity, and that's how L3 Home was born," says Genji Soh, Co-Founder of L3 Home.
“We launched just before the COVID-19 lockdown in Victoria, so the first three years were challenging due to supply chain issues, but in that time, we worked with [reality television series] The Block, which helped get our name out there,” Soh explains.
L3 Home aims to offer designer-quality products that blend timeless design with the practical needs of Australian homes. “We keep an eye on global trends while tailoring our offerings to suit the unique preferences of the local Australian market," says Soh.
So, what furniture suits Australian interiors? Soh explains, “Australian homes typically feature white walls, timber floors, and ample lighting, leading us to focus on neutral tones and simple designs yet quality materials.”
“Unlike other regions where bold colours and opulent styles are popular, Australian consumers prefer a minimalistic palette, sticking to timbers, whites, blacks and greys."
As for predicting future trends, "We anticipate a change in furniture sizes as more people move into apartments, reflecting the shift toward smaller living spaces. This change will likely lead to a greater focus on clever space-saving designs, like what's seen in densely populated regions such as Asia and Europe," Soh adds.
The brand's philosophy centres around providing high-quality, timeless pieces at accessible price points. Soh remarks, "We're focusing on timeless style. We do a lot of neutrals—natural oak, black oak, white—because people don't want to spend money and time every few years refreshing their house.”
“The idea is to provide affordable luxury, which means you still get quality materiality, such as real wood."
The brand aims to bring elements typically associated with designer furniture to a more attainable price point, ensuring that style and quality are accessible to designers regardless of their clients' budgets.
L3 Home has a keen eye for contemporary design trends, with a particular focus on sculptural design, textures and mixed media. "We've been focusing on sculptural design and different textures lately. There's a playful interest in each piece – we refer to our collection as 'shapes and forms'," remarks Soh.
Featuring natural wood tones, concrete, and soft arches, L3 Home’s living and dining pieces exude a sense of textural minimalism. Its Aurora TV Unit features on-trend front arches, adding a soft architectural flair. Crafted from American oak, this unit suits a calming, neutral palette. While the Ines dining chair, with its high-contrast black metal frame and cream bouclé upholstery, injects tactility and texture into the space.
The brand is known for its interesting use of mixed media, combining materials like wood, metal, plastic, concrete, marble, and upholstery in bold and unique ways – like the Hart Square coffee table in bold back, which marries solid oak and concrete. "We do mixed media well, using multiple materiality in one item. Some might have three materials in one, while others may be more straightforward. It's a play on materiality, textures and shapes," says Soh.
In addition to its design prowess, the company places a strong emphasis on sustainability. The L3 Home brand is committed to ethical sourcing and sustainable practices, ensuring that its products are not only beautiful but also environmentally responsible. Soh comments, "We work closely with manufacturers across Asia, building strong relationships and ensuring that our products meet the highest standards of quality and sustainability."
Looking ahead, L3 Home is excited about its upcoming projects and collaborations. The brand is set to feature prominently in a major apartment project: "We're fitting a 76-apartment project, with our products accounting for about 40-50 per cent of the furniture and accessories. This is an exciting opportunity for us to showcase our range on a larger scale," says Soh.
L3 Home has quickly established itself as a key player in the interior design industry thanks to its commitment to quality, affordability and sustainable practices. The brand's playful approach to contemporary Australian design elements makes it a go-to choice for designers wanting a whole-house offering of quality pieces.
