Keeler Hardware, an Australian-owned architectural hardware retailer, is known for its decades of expertise, including prestigious projects, such as the iconic Sydney Opera House. From its brand-new distribution centre servicing Australia-wide and the North Willoughby flagship store, Keeler Hardware continues as the go-to retailer for architectural hardware
Among Keeler Hardware’s recent products is the introduction of the Barn Door Privacy Lock—an innovative product that will enable a barn door on nearly every threshold.
“This lock is ideal if you were putting a barn door over your bathroom, for example,” explains Lynda O’Grady, Residential Project Specialist at Keeler Hardware, “the benefit of the Barn Door Privacy Lock is that it’s functionally a new product that previously wasn’t available in the market. It allows barn doors to be locked, which wasn’t possible in the past without using an old-style bolt – that’s not ideal for high-end homes.”
This innovative barn door privacy lock addresses privacy needs and comes in various finishes, Lynda remarks, “It’s available in a range of finishes, including Unlacquered Brass and Oil Rubbed Bronze.”
Keeler Hardware’s influence extends past functionality; the company has its eye on the latest global design trends. Lynda shares the finish making a significant comeback in high-end homes.
“Current trends in the high-end homes that I work on are towards various brass finishes, including antique brass, sometimes called Oil Rubbed Bronze, Signature Brass, or Roman Brass,” says Lynda.
“In particular, Unlacquered Brass is gaining popularity for its organic look. It works beautifully with the timber features that are becoming increasingly common in homes, providing a more natural, authentic feel.”
Architects and designers are opting for finishes that evolve over time, moving away from the highly polished surfaces. While still functional for its resistance to fingerprints, even Satin Nickel has seen a decline in favour of more tactile and character-rich finishes. Lynda explains: “If I’m working on three jobs, two will involve a brass finish. Clients love the way it can harmonise with other hardware like taps, hinges, and edge plates, creating a uniform look throughout the home.”
Lynda also notes that rounded and curved hardware are popular choices like the Iver Brunswick Door Lever Handle on Round Rose. While uniformity is a safe and popular choice, Keeler Hardware also caters to more daring designers. "Bolder designers might mix and match finishes, breaking from convention to create a distinctive aesthetic," she notes.
Keeler Hardware’s success is in its extensive designer product offerings and its personalised approach to each project. The Residential Project Team collaborates closely with architects, designers, and homeowners to ensure that every detail of the hardware is perfect, from the front door to a minor cabinet pull.
One of Lynda’s recent projects in Woollahra highlights the company’s bespoke approach to hardware solutions. “I’m currently working on a project where the client has Unlacquered Brass throughout the home. They understand that this finish will age and deepen in colour over time, which will complement the antique timber doors and other design elements,” says Lynda.
“At the same time, we’ve integrated high-spec electronic locks for keyless entry and smart home integration. My job is to make sure all of this looks beautiful and functions seamlessly.”
From intricate brass finishes to bringing a Barn Door Privacy Lock solution to our shores, Keeler Hardware is not just a retailer of quality products but a trusted partner in architectural visions.
