A contemporary hospitality interior woven into the historic fabric of Dunedin, where original stonework, rich materiality and considered detailing create a series of warm, atmospheric dining spaces.
Alondo is a contemporary hospitality project set within the historic fabric of central Dunedin. The design sought to create a warm, layered and atmospheric dining experience while retaining and celebrating the character of the existing building.
McLaren Architecture / Design worked closely with interior designer TTD Studio, developing a cohesive response that brings together the architecture, spatial planning, material palette and detailed interior elements. Original stonework and existing character are complemented by rich terracotta tones, dark steel, warm timber, patterned upholstery and carefully considered lighting.
A series of distinct dining environments gives Alondo its character, from the main restaurant and bar through to more intimate dining spaces. Each has its own identity while remaining connected through a consistent approach to material, colour and detailing.
The result is an interior that feels established rather than newly inserted — contemporary and refined, while allowing the building’s history and texture to remain an integral part of the experience.
