Eco-villas in Cardrona Valley showcasing natural materials and high-performance living, designed for affordability and comfort in New Zealand's alpine climate.
In the remote Cardrona Valley, the first stage of the Abodo Alpine Village consists of three eco-villas, exemplifying a blend of natural materials with the alpine landscape. These homes, commissioned by Abodo, set a precedent for healthy, high-performance yet affordable living in one of New Zealand’s most demanding climates. Their design follows the natural topography, with varied timber cladding that complements the surrounding tussock. Inside, timber wall linings and cork floors create a warm, textural environment. Utilizing passive house details, these villas achieve a Homestar 7 rating and were prefabricated in Christchurch, then transported to the site, aligning with the project's affordability and accessibility goals.
