After 160 years, the Hamilton Hotel underwent a much-needed refurbishment. This took shape as a modern bar and bistro, designed for an elegant dining experience while incorporating bold and playful details that reflect the building’s history. Colour and bespoke details were used to define the soul of each space. In the Bar, the energy is bolder and moodier while in the Bistro, the atmosphere shifts to something more refined and upmarket. Custom furniture settings were important for setting the tone. Whether you’re looking for an intimate dining experience, a perch at the bar or a communal hub, every guest experience has been considered and crafted. Designed for discovery, the expansive site reveals itself in layers, offering guests the chance to stumble upon spaces that have their own secret language.

To bring the Hamilton Hotel into a new era, we were entrusted to redesign the historic landmark into a modern bar and bistro. The new space offers a contemporary dining experience while celebrating its heritage and its connection to the brand-new Waikato Regional Theatre.
