Education

Housed on one level of a heritage building, we began by knocking down the ‘rabbit warren’ and revealing the beautiful bones of Melbourne Polytechnic’s new photography studio.

By physically opening up the floor the once underutilised space is given a breath of fresh air, the perfect environment to invoke inspiration in the institute’s best up-and-coming talent. Our design is in complete service to the students’ work. Both layout and materiality pull visitors through the space, encouraging them to experience the exhibition in full.

The material palette is modest and simple, a canvas instead for art to be created and elevated.

Working across a number of Melbourne Polytechnic’s Victorian campuses, we’ve come to understand the broader aims of the Institute, and how they are looking to create exceptional student experiences around the state.

“From a user perspective we were really happy with the process and the outcome. Thank you for your considerations and efforts. The staff and students are loving working in the new space.” Rachel Cowley – Manager Visual Arts, Melbourne Polytechnic

About the
Professional

We are an international architecture and interior design practice with a vision to Nurture the Future. With offices in Melbourne, Singapore and Kuala Lumpur, K2LD is now over 20 years old. We’re a proud, passionate and diverse group of individuals who combine to create great outcomes for our clients and the urban environment.

It’s in our differences that we find our distinctiveness, and that shows in our work – from all scales of single or multi-residential and commercial developments, through to public and private education and infrastructure projects throughout the region.

At ArchiPro we recognise and acknowledge the existing, original and ancient connection Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples have to the lands and waterways across the Australian continent. We pay our respects to the elders past and present. We commit to working together to build a prosperous and inclusive Australia.
