Herne Bay Heritage Villa banner

This architectural renovation project in Herne Bay, Auckland, embodies a meticulous transformation of a grand heritage villa, breathing new life into its timeless elegance. The endeavor encompasses a full refresh and interior alteration, with a focus on respecting its historical significance while enhancing its functionality for modern living. A key challenge of the build involved the excavation below the house to create a new basement with masonry walls, providing a garage while preserving the villa above. New joinery has been carefully crafted to match the existing trims and facings, ensuring a seamless integration of old and new. Timber shutters on windows have been incorporated to create dappled light in the bathrooms, and strategic design elements frame the views over the character skyline of Herne Bay and the enchanting Waitematā Harbour, further enhancing the villa's charm and connection to its surroundings.

The second stage of this project involved the creation of a new outdoor living space featuring an in-situ concrete pool and integrated spa. An enhanced connection from the indoor to outdoor living spaces was achieved through a wide single panel surface sliding door. This ensured an unobstructed visual aspect to the pool area, whether the door is open or closed. The pool zone was designed as a discrete addition to avoid distraction from the existing house, with frameless glass balustrades and sharply detailed pool edging.
