An absolute beachfront apartment in Surfers Paradise transformed, allowing breath-taking ocean views to shine
Occupying an entire floor in a boutique block of just 15 residences, Nexus Designs and local architecture practice Bones Studio were engaged to undertake a light and bright refresh of this holiday home for a Melbourne couple.
The brief was to relax the interiors, improve lighting and flow and create a greater connection with the shoreline and skyline. Nexus Designs applied our expertise to curate a subtle, tonal colour palette for the finishes and furnishings, and Bones Studio led on the space-planning and interior fit-out.
Maximising sightlines was at the forefront of our team’s minds when selecting and positioning new furnishings including textured upholstery and hand-made woven rugs and cushions. Large and clunky, the existing bar was removed, and high gloss Cappellini, wall-mounted units were introduced, discreetly concealing an effortlessly functional space.
Changes to finishes in the apartment include high gloss paint contrasting against textured paint used on the walls, and the replacement of the dark stone tile flooring with a more tonal timber. Elsewhere subtle design interventions saw the removal of panelling in the main bathroom, alongside a paint refresh using natural white – each element working to create a greater sense of openness and ease within the space.
Avid art collectors, the clients worked with us to select and position works for the apartment including Australian, First Nations and international artists. The result is an early 2000s configuration reimagined and fit for purpose and lifestyle more than two decades later.
