Retaining charm without compromising function or aesthetics, the reworking of this 1930s South Yarra house, originally designed by notable architect Marcus Martin, aligns respect for heritage with the needs of modern living. Internally, spaces are awash with solid and calming neutrals, enlivened with opulent blues and subtle shifts in texture and finish; the drama of the 1930s reimagined for the clients of today.

Furniture was selected for one of two reasons – to contrast with the heritage detailing or to complement it. The Moooi Container table in the entry illustrates the former, the velvet piped Maxalto Lutetia Vestis sofa is an example of the latter.

Artwork selection by Nexus Designs included pieces by Fred Williams, John Firth-Smith, Milton Moon, Rosemary Laing, Noel McKenna, Jackson Slattery and a commissioned sculptural work by John Nicholson.

About the
Professional

For over five decades, Nexus Designs has created enduring and personal design, expressing authenticity and bringing delight. Multi-disciplinary to the core, we offer a true integrated service of interior design, product development, colour and trend analysis, graphic design and communication, working within the residential, commercial, government, education and building product manufacturing sectors.

Embodying the unstoppable search for timeless and functional design championed by our founder Janne Faulkner AM, our studio is bright, adaptable and spirited, interesting as much as we are interested, and endlessly inspired by the colour and form found within the unique Australian natural and built environments.

At ArchiPro we recognise and acknowledge the existing, original and ancient connection Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples have to the lands and waterways across the Australian continent. We pay our respects to the elders past and present. We commit to working together to build a prosperous and inclusive Australia.
