Renovation of Kennedy Boarding House and the addition of a new dining hall at Frensham School, enhancing social spaces and modernizing facilities while respecting the school's historic architecture.
Client: Frensham School
Frensham School’s students include boarders and day school girls and over three hundred girls meet daily in the dining hall to share meals and social activities. The gathering is an important part of campus life. The dining hall is a new addition to the school’s original dining area built almost a century ago and the carpet design makes reference to the historic school colours and logo. Kennedy Boarding House was upgraded as part of the same project to include refurbished social areas, bedrooms, and bathrooms.
Frensham is an all-girls Boarding and Day School with 300+ students. Ensuring the dining hall can serve as a dining and a social setting, the space is column free. This allows flexibility, accommodating functions and events. The design mirrors the gable roof of the original dining room, vaulted ceilings and wainscoting while using contemporary materials and detailing. The forecourt to the dining room is designed with new landscaping providing an enhanced entry into the building and space for outdoor functions while creating a connection with the main campus. The Kennedy Boarding House Alterations and Additions includes an upgraded entry, 2-storey additions and new student common rooms on several levels.
