A high-performance, off-grid dwelling in Middlemarch, designed for filmmakers Andrea & Shane, featuring a seamless blend with the landscape and built using innovative materials for sustainability and comfort.
“From our very first meeting we quickly realised Guy was a terrific listener, and he really heard and understood what we were wanting for our small and permanent home. We are grateful to him as an architect for designing us a house that is a joy to live in, and characterised by simplicity, light, and a truly surprising sense of spaciousness in a 68m2 footprint.”
Filmmakers Andrea & Shane of Torchlights films, approached Energy Architecture to create a new home for their relocation from Wellington to striking family land near Middlemarch in Otago. Their high performance, off grid home was built in southland before been transported to site. Now nestled between rocks above a small lake, the house blends with the existing house and old barn, respecting the landscape that inspired the design.
