New Plymouth Airport features a complex structural frame and large glass panes, designed collaboratively to reflect the region's cultural heritage, while utilizing advanced unitised-shopfront technology for enhanced performance and efficiency.
New Plymouth Airport, completed in 2020, was a highly technical delivery with a very complex grid and structural frame incorporating large panes of glass. The building was designed as a collaboration between the Puketapu Hāpu, Papa Rererangi / Puketapu, Beca Architects and Cleland’s Construction and reflects the strong cultural heritage of that region.
Traditionally shopfront has been a ‘low technology’ product; however, unitised-shopfront offers a significant improvement in thermal, seismic and weatherproofing properties. Prefabricating façade panels provide considerable install advantages when enclosing a building is on a critical path, saving time and offering increased value with greater performance.
