On Point - Bulli banner

On Point’ at Bulli is a renovation of the façade on a modest budget. With $200,000 to work with, I had high hopes we could transform this tired 60’s red brick home into a contemporary home to be admired.

The renovation brief was to provide a sheltered verandah to enjoy the ocean views from the main first floor living areas, replace the garage doors and fix the brickwork that was failing in areas due to salt erosion. The existing entry needed to achieve natural light and the overall façade needed added architectural interest.

We achieved the wow factor with the use of Colorbond Lysaght Enseam 265 ‘Night Sky’, Wood, Concrete and Stone, all materials that reflect the raw elements. The roof design itself encompasses a bold point; pointing in the direction of the ocean and the fact the house is located on Sandon Point.

There were no internal changes to achieve this renovation, only the removal of exterior windows, to be replaced with stacking doors to access the new verandah. Overall, the project is very sustainable, literally transforming the façade has given this home a new lease on life and added so much value.

It was great to demonstrate what’s possible with a smaller scale project, there isn’t always the need to undertake a full‐ scale renovation; creative thinking, good communication with your client and clever material selection can go a long way to achieve your dream renovation within a budget.
