Waterloo Metro Station is a landmark transport infrastructure project forming part of Sydney Metro’s City & Southwest network. Designed as a major interchange within the Waterloo precinct, the station integrates large-scale public infrastructure with a considered architectural response to its surrounding urban context.
Waterloo Metro Station is a significant piece of transport infrastructure delivered as part of Sydney Metro City & Southwest, bringing a new underground metro connection to one of Sydney’s rapidly evolving inner-city precincts.
Located within the Waterloo town centre, the station forms an important link between the surrounding residential, commercial and community precincts and Sydney’s broader metro network. The project incorporates a deep underground station, expansive concourse and platform levels, multiple station entries and integrated public-domain works.
The design responds to the station’s prominent urban setting while balancing the complex technical requirements of a major transport facility. Carefully considered architecture, materiality, wayfinding and public spaces create a clear and intuitive experience for passengers, while the station’s integration with the surrounding streetscape supports the continued growth and transformation of Waterloo.
As part of Sydney’s expanding metro network, Waterloo Metro Station represents a major investment in the city’s transport infrastructure and plays an important role in improving connectivity across the inner city.
