About This Project

It seems as though if the site is contaminated, has flooding issues and an interesting block shape, that it falls on my desk.

The current home of an organisation that provides meaningful work to people with intellectual disabilities, it was originally designed as two separate factories. It was subsequently modified to be one building. As the work is often food related, hygiene and cool room facilities had to be installed as well as a large staff canteen to provide a safe working environment for the workers.

All highbay areas allow for flexibility, with both doors having turning paths to allow large rigid and large flexible base vehicles (semi-trailers) to manoeuvre on-site, reverse into loading areas, and side load containers.

Large office areas with upper floor balconies provide a comfortable work environment for all.

Total budget, including fitout, was $9m

Ground floor is raised above the site to allow for flood controls-a large area to the rear of the site is pier and beam with a hydraulic holding area under.

Elegant stepped facade elements give the building depth and dimension and self shading. Originally, designed as a two-unit site, it iwas also designed to allow for minor modifications capable of turning it into one tenancy, as it is currently being used
