A heritage building comes with character

A heritage building comes with character. It also comes with challenges.

The Grey Lynn Firehouse, established 1889, is one of Auckland's most loved hospitality venues, soaring vaulted ceilings, rich timber detailing and an atmosphere you can't manufacture. But that same architecture was working against it. High ceilings, hard surfaces, a room full of people, noise levels were making it difficult to enjoy the very thing the space was built for: good conversation and good food.

The brief was simple. Improve the acoustics without touching the soul of the space.

Six custom ceiling panels in 50mm Quietspace with Black Sergazo fronting. The dark finish sits back into the existing ceiling, complementing the deep burgundy tones and exposed timber without interrupting them. Positioned carefully around pendant lights, vents and original ceiling framework, the panels disappear into the space. You notice the difference in how the room feels before you ever notice the panels themselves.

The result is a space that sounds as good as it looks.

“I really enjoyed working with Damon and the team on this project. Their technical advice and assistance with specifications bridged the gap between manufacturer and designer. Looking forward to more successful projects in the future.”
