Hill St is renown for some grand homes with luxurious views, in addition to preserving and capitalising on the exceptional views from this locale, privacy was the crucial part of the design brief for this multigenerational family. They required a home that could accommodate them all, and with the fall of the site over 5 meters the design allowed for a multi-level home with the living spaces framing views out north west towards the city. As is the Cera Stribley methodology the context of the sloping land geology and the undulating Yarra river nearby was inspiration for the form. The tall apertures purposefully cut into the solid form allow both light and views, whilst responding to the restrictions of the site in terms of the neighbours and privacy.

Materiality is particularly important for this house, the choice of concrete and brick masonry is a nod to the geological textures of the site, softened with gardens surrounding the house on all sides, and the moody swimming pool below. In a way mimicking the experience of sitting on the river bank from the living spaces above.
