A refined rural residence shaped around privacy, material warmth and connected outdoor living
Set within the park-like grounds of Martinborough Estate, this award-winning residence responds to its expansive setting with a low, grounded form and a carefully considered arrangement of three distinct wings.
The timber-clad main bedroom wing is elevated above the grey-clad primary form, creating a layered architectural expression across the site. A central driveway passes through the building, separating the double garage from the main entrance and reinforcing the home’s strong linear composition.
Internally, a white oak-panelled entry and hallway lead into the open-plan kitchen and dining area, where polished concrete floors are paired with a stone-topped island and plywood linings extending across the ceiling. A bespoke joinery element incorporating a two-way gas fireplace provides subtle separation within the open living space while maintaining visual connection.
The planning balances everyday living with flexibility for guests. The main bedroom wing includes an office with a concealed pull-down bed, while a separate two-bedroom guest wing can be closed off when not required.
Together, the three wings form a U-shaped plan around a sheltered outdoor living area, extending towards a 15-metre lap pool, spa and outdoor fireplace. The result is a home that combines strong architectural form with warmth, privacy and an easy connection between interior and landscape.
The project received a Gold Award in the New Home $2 million to $4 million category at the 2025 Registered Master Builders House of the Year Awards and was recognised among the national Top 100.
