Optometry Australia approached Andever to assist with scouting a location for their national headquarters and to design the interior fit-out. Their core brief was for multiple teams to work alongside whilst balancing acoustic & visual privacy.
Our solution was to challenge the fully open-plan arrangement that is the current default. We proposed permeable zones that allow light to pass through whilst adding a partial barrier to sound – using storage modules, plants and polycarbonate-clad partitions to mark zones. We were also careful to maintain an equitable sense of outlook and daylight for all team members. The resulting space has staggered view-lines and simplified flow to allow workstations that range from public to private. The exposed framing and translucency act as a membrane (not a wall) and encourage team members to be mindful of the wider office environment.
