Modern Luxury Beach Home

Set within the coastal landscape of Te Arai, this contemporary residence is designed as a refined retreat that responds to its dramatic seaside setting. The architecture is composed as a series of simple gabled forms, connected by lower linking elements to create a relaxed yet highly considered coastal home. Vertical Accoya timber cladding gives the building a quiet, recessive quality, allowing the home to sit naturally within the dunes and surrounding native planting. The strong roof forms reference traditional rural and coastal architecture, while generous glazing opens the interior to ocean views, natural light, and outdoor living. The home is arranged around sheltered courtyards, textured stone walls, and carefully composed outdoor spaces that provide protection from the coastal environment while maintaining a strong connection to the landscape. Natural stone, timber, concrete, and coastal planting create a grounded material palette that feels robust, timeless, and suited to its location. Internally, the residence is designed for relaxed coastal living, with open-plan spaces flowing directly to terraces and views beyond. Large sliding doors, framed outlooks, and generous proportions create a sense of calm and openness, while the separated building forms allow for privacy between living, guest, and bedroom areas. The Te Arai project reflects Origin’s approach to architecture: site-responsive, highly crafted, and deeply connected to place. It is a modern coastal home designed for enduring comfort, understated luxury, and effortless living by the sea.
