Blade House Tamborine Mountain banner

Situated on an extraordinary site on Tamborine Mountain with panoramic views to the Gold Coast, Blade House tells a story of rest, refuge and hope.

At the end of a winding, leafy driveway stands a subtly textured brick wall. The visitor steps through the narrow opening into an entry courtyard that forces one’s attention onto the sky. The whole entry sequence - a strange compression and release of unfamiliar proportion and space - was to create a sense of formality. It serves two purposes: firstly, to allow visitors to participate in the story of the house as a new beginning for the owner. And secondly, to ground and humble us as humans, putting us in place, forcing us to be deferential in how we approach the beauty of nature.

The house itself is simple - rectangular in form, modest in size, materials chosen to evoke a sense of calm, and always connected to the available view. Custom steel doors, Novacolor plaster floors and bathrooms surfaces, and the ever-present warmth of the sandstock brick are subtle elements that speak into the space. The two-bedroom layout can be easily reconfigured into two self-contained units, and has also been designed for future expansion.

About the
Professional

We are a vibrant, creative and passionate architectural practice based in Brisbane, Australia.

First established in 2016, we see ourselves as the next link, inspired by - and walking in the footsteps of - generous, creative and selfless architects who have practiced before us.
Architects who may not necessarily be esteemed or celebrated, who may or may not be exhibited or featured in coffee table books,
but in pursuing great design they have quietly, unassumingly touched countless lives in their craft and service.

We are intentional and counter-cultural in our work - in how we serve our clients, in how we relate as a team, how we advocate for those in need, and how we gauge our success.
We are not satisfied with the status quo. We don’t need our name up in lights.

Our buildings are a physical outcome of our passion - to see people live well, to come home to an environment of peace and rest,
and thus empowered to demonstrate generous hospitality.

At ArchiPro we recognise and acknowledge the existing, original and ancient connection Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples have to the lands and waterways across the Australian continent. We pay our respects to the elders past and present. We commit to working together to build a prosperous and inclusive Australia.
