TreadTech deck framing and a Unex frameless glass balustrade, engineered for a high-seismic coastal site with no fixings to the building.

A 15m x 6m deck on the Kāpiti Coast needed to sit above a waterproofed substrate with zero penetrations to the building envelope, ruling out a conventional fixed deck. UNEX's TreadTech aluminium framing system, mounted on height-adjustable pedestals, provided a level, self-supporting platform independent of the structure below. A frameless glass balustrade was integrated directly into the frame using Viking RoofTrak waterproof fixing brackets, resisting overturning loads without a single membrane penetration. Custom boxed aluminium sections added lateral stability for the region's seismic demands, and a site-specific PS1 covered the geometry, seismic zone and waterproofing constraints. The result: an unobstructed, low-maintenance outdoor space built to hold up on an exposed coastal site.
