Glasshouse Projects worked with Hafele Australia to create a unique and contemporary showroom, incorporating a virtual apartment to promote the Hafele Functionality World concept.

The site, a tenancy in the heritage-listed Henry Austin building, is one of Adelaide’s most prominent surviving red brick warehouses, featuring the distinctive Flemish bond red brick on both exterior and interior applications. Playing with this prominent colour, which also formed part of the Hafele branding, we created a patent red moulded curved- form kitchen, acting as a key focal feature, just evident on entry. The oribital form of the kitchen, which intentionally spills out on the outside of the building in the rear lane, connects the visitor to the full-size street art by local crew Toy Soldiers.

The warehouse feel is reduced by raised platforms to display mock fit outs, whilst use of timbers on feature joinery and soft spot lighting warm the space, inviting the visitor to explore the visual story.

Don Iannicelli, Lead Architect, mentions ‘Central to the design was the aim to spark curiosity. The way that pop of colour hits you when you reach the rear lane, the glass and curvature drawing you in to find out more. When you walk in from the street there is such a contrast between the heritage façade, and the vibrancy and warmth of the internal space. You can’t help but want to explore.’
