Kingsland Extension banner

This existing bungalow in Kingsland has been gutted and reconfigured to create modern and light-filled living spaces that connect to a modern extension, part secondary living, part exterior storage, for this father and his two daughters. The site, situated within a valley and natural overland flow path presented poor ground conditions and extensive foundation work was required.

Cleverly designed by SGA Architects the extension is clad in vertical aluminium Nu-Wall and features concrete floors and birch plywood lining in rich contrast to the existing weatherboard dwelling with reinstated native timber floors. The entry is slipped between the old and new forms and united by a membrane roof above.

Extensive birch cabinetry and yellow cedar joinery throughout marries the old and new, with large interior glazed sliders providing the option to connect or isolate the new volume. Within the extension, the cabinetry wall in birch is part bookshelf, part display and part ladder to access the loft for the girls to snuggle up with a book, do homework or host slumber parties.

The project features new over-wall timber sliders to create a large opening from the kitchen & dining and within the extension aluminium sliders open to reveal a cantilevered corner that connect to the new deck and spa.

Our workshop in Mount Roskill allows us to fabricate items offsite for increased efficiency and work within a controlled environment all year round. We are also aware of the significant role construction plays in waste and emissions and are currently piloting an inhouse transport and waste management system to reduce our load on the environment.

At ArchiPro we recognise and acknowledge the existing, original and ancient connection Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples have to the lands and waterways across the Australian continent. We pay our respects to the elders past and present. We commit to working together to build a prosperous and inclusive Australia.
