Our clients wanted to capture the holiday resort feeling when they returned home from overseas travel. Having secured a wedge-shped site with expansive 270 degree views on a promontory the design needed to access the available and distinctive sea views, while providing privacy to the high-pedestrian use reserve between the site and the water edge.

The design solution was to create a low level residence consisting of separate stepped forms mimicing resort living. Raising and steeping the forms provided visual connection to the seaviews without compromising privacy. Entry from the street is via a generous curved stair void between solid concrete walls creating separation and privacy between the Owners' Master Suite and the Guest Room wing. Rising to the upper level the stair delivers you to the main Living area and the magnificent views. A pebble-lined reflecting pool (concealing water storage) leads the eye out to the promontory the beach and the islands of the Hauraki Gulf. The kitchen serves the outdoor and indoor dining spaces with it's own easterly islands view. Louvres by Louvre Tec ensure that the sun can be managed to ensure comfort. Taking another stair down a level leads to an accoustically separated home theatre with adjacent boat storage, a short haul across the reserve to the water's edge.

The Owners' resort-style brief was enhanced by Interior Design of Gretl Lukas, sealing the luxury resort ambience.
