Located in Auckland, Parks Flooring started supplying the New Zealand market with high-quality European flooring in 2001, with only five employees in their 50-square-metre office space. Fast forward to 2024, and Parks Flooring is one of New Zealand’s most sought-after suppliers, with a reputation for a wide range of beautiful flooring and interior products imported from Germany, Estonia, Poland, and Switzerland, and a professional installation service.
Parks Flooring supplies both residential and commercial clients, but having recently completed a few large-scale apartment projects for the likes of Cheshire Architects, Risland, and CMP Construction, ArchiPro was interested in learning more about their commercial offering. David Hong, Parks Flooring’s Commercial Manager, shares his insights on the SKHY Apartments, Risland Albany, and Neo Apartments projects.
SKHY Apartments
Overlooking Khyber Pass Road near its intersection with Symonds Street, SKHY Apartments occupy what was once a 1970s office building and low-rise mall. Gutting the interiors to replace them with luxury apartments, Cheshire Architects sought to revitalise the space and breathe life into a part of Auckland that has seen many historic buildings demolished.
“With six distinct and unique apartment types available, SKHY has a home for everyone. Brought to life by the award-winning Cheshire Architects, developers Lamont & Co., and Leigh's Construction, SKHY is a lush and sheltered urban precinct. Residents enjoy sweeping views of the Waitemata Harbour, proximity to the CBD, city fringe suburbs and transport links, and Grammar zoning. It’s your own leafy urban sanctuary on the ridgeline of Auckland city,” David says.
European Oak Engineered Wood in the colours Smokey and Natural were chosen for the apartments, bringing a beautiful warmth to the space. Paired with simple white walls and a combination of industrial and sleek, modern finishes, the rich maple and chestnut hues of the Natural and Smokey-coloured Oak are a tasteful addition to the material palette. Alongside supplying and offering product support, Parks Flooring also carried out the installation of the acoustic underlay and the engineered wood floor.
Risland Albany
Three buildings, varying in form and scale, make up Risland Albany’s campus, offering a variety of apartment styles to suit residents' needs. Risland Albany’s natural north-south orientation allows all apartments to face east or west to take advantage of the sun.
“Situated on a large site bordering Don McKinnon Drive, Risland Albany is the latest project by acclaimed international developer, Risland. This impressive development stands nine floors high and comprises 145 quality apartments across three blocks. Parks Flooring supplied and installed KronoSwiss Floor - Premium Origin Collection (14mm) for all 145 apartments, and we’re proud to have supported Risland Group and CMP Construction on their success.”
The floor’s subtle, natural colour complements the neutral palette of the Risland units, making it easy for residents to add their own flair to the space. KronoSwiss flooring also boasts a water and liquid-repellant composition, which is ideal for apartments considering the variety of people and activities that will take place day-to-day.
Neo Apartments
Another Central Auckland project, Neo Apartments offers residents a slice of inner-city life with the retreat and solace of a luxury apartment. Fitted with beautiful, honey-coloured European Oak flooring in the shade Natural, and a similar timber finish on the kitchen cabinetry, the apartments have a simple yet elegant aesthetic.
“Neo sits one block north of Khyber Pass Road across from Saint David’s Church in a pocket of new residential developments, looking north across the city centre towards the Waitemata Harbour and Hauraki Gulf. Parks Flooring was proud to support CMP Construction on this successful project,” David says.
As with all of the projects, Parks Flooring ensured the product arrived on time and carried out a swift and efficient installation.
“We always prepare the subfloors before installing the flooring product and install an acoustic underlay on top of the existing subfloor. The flooring is usually delivered to the ground floor, and then the main contractor helps us with a tower crane to move the flooring to each subsequent floor in the apartment building,” David explains.
From timber, laminate, and 100% waterproof Corpel flooring to acoustic panelling, Parks Flooring’s range of high-quality products has something for everyone. Plus, with their professional installation service, you can rest assured that your flooring or interior finishes will look beautiful on completion.
Reflecting on how far they’ve come since their launch in 2001, David proudly shares, "We now have a 150-square-metre office in addition to a showroom of over 300 square metres."
"We are committed to offering eco-conscious elegance for our customers, with our top priority being to create floors and finishes that perfectly align with their needs and lifestyle. We look forward to hearing from you and are confident that your experience with us will be a positive one."
