The Art of Rug Care

Treat It with a Little Love

A rug isn’t just practical, it’s part of how you live. With a mindful approach to maintenance, you’ll preserve its feel and finish for years to come.

Vacuum, But Keep It Gentle

Use a flat suction head — never a rotating brush or motorised powerhead, which can damage the fibres, especially on loop-pile or textured rugs. Vacuum regularly and gently to lift dust without disturbing the weave.

When Spills Happen, Blot - Don’t Rub

The golden rule of rug care: blot, never rub. Rubbing forces liquid into the pile and risks permanent damage. Instead, gently press a clean, white cloth or paper towel to the area to absorb the spill. If the mark proves stubborn, consult a specialist cleaner.

Handle Artsilk with Extra Care

For rugs handcrafted from artsilk (also known as viscose or artificial silk), restraint is key. These delicate fibres require a softer touch than wool. Never wet clean. Instead, seek professional guidance for any marks or spills.

Rotate with the Seasons

To maintain an even look and feel, rotate your rug every six months. It helps balance wear in high-traffic zones and prevents fading from sunlight in brighter spaces.

Sunlight Caution

Natural light enhances texture and tone, but too much direct sun can fade the rug fibres. If your rug sits in a sunny spot, rotate it regularly and consider softening the light with sheer window treatments

A Gentle Refresh, Once a Year

A professional dry clean once a year will lift embedded dust and restore softness without compromising structure. Be sure to choose a cleaner with experience in handling handcrafted or natural fibre rugs.
