When it comes to creating a pool area at home, you want the design to be as visually seamless as possible, while still taking optimum care of your pool. Here’s how to create a serene pool area with a pool cover that doesn’t interrupt the visual continuity of the space.

Having a pool at home is the ultimate way to create a resort-style feel, and protecting the pool and water with a pool cover is the ideal way to prolong the life of your pool, regulate water temperature, minimise heat loss, keep your water cleaner with less treatment required and minimise water evaporation.

However, not all pool covers add to the seamless experience of your pool area. Many pool cover systems require bulky above-ground mechanisms or must be installed in a way that detracts from the overall visual appearance of the pool area.

In response to this common problem, Aussie UnderCover was founded in 2008, offering slimline, sleek and sophisticated underground pool covers that make pool maintenance a breeze, while remaining completely hidden from sight.

Here, the tiles are in-laid so that the surface of the pool cover lid is flush with the surface of the pool surround.

Aussie UnderCover’s Sandra Lothian says it’s the only system that allows you to choose how you want your pool cover to look or be disguised.

“Aussie UnderCover engineered the pool cover systems to blend in with natural surroundings – so they’re hidden from sight until you’re ready to use them. Each system enhances the available space, minimises clutter around the pool, and is perfectly disguised.”

Whether your pool area surface is decking, paving, tiles, timber, composite timbers, sprayed concrete, polished concrete or synthetic turf, Aussie UnderCover’s pool covers are designed to be lined with the same material, to create a seamless finish around the pool.

“Our pool covers are intelligently designed to be both subtle and stylish, with a choice of manual control systems (cost-effective covers that are quick and easy to wind in and out) and semi remote-control systems (for a little extra sophistication and ease),” says Sandra.

The maximum tile the pool cover system takes is 20mm thick, which means there are so many options for tiles and pavers on the market that can be used, and Aussie UnderCover is currently experimenting with pouring concrete directly into the frame to create a seamless concrete surface for those who want to match the concrete pour in their pool area.

This composite timber deck shows the timber in-laid into the pool cover so that it's virtually invisible.
The pool cover lid is easily lifted up for when it needs to be used.
Another advantage of Aussie Undercover's seamless pool covers is furniture can be used on top of them, so you don't lose any space.
Tiles can be seamlessly installed on the cover lid, so that it's virtually invisible.

There are 10 kit sizes available, each with a strong, self-supporting winding handle that hangs neatly inside the pit, or a remote control. The simple, smooth and light operation makes them ideal for all pools up to seven metres wide. Custom modifications are also available for larger or smaller pools.

Pool covers themselves help to regulate water temperature and reduce power bills by minimising heat loss when the sun goes down; reducing water loss through evaporation in the warmer months; minimising chlorine consumption by shielding your pool from high UV levels; and protecting your pool from excess leaf litter and debris when not in use (thus easing the load on your skimmer, filter, pump – and you). Being an investment in both the quality of water you swim in, the longevity of your pool, and the aesthetics of your pool area, it’s important to get the right cover to enhance the experience of your pool.

Aussie UnderCover is Nowra-based and delivers Australia-wide, and each cover comes with detailed instructions, pictures and layout plans for hassle-free self-installation. Installation is available in Sydney, NSW South Coast and other selected areas. Aussie UnderCover is also Australian made and owned, so their customers have the comfort of knowing they have a local product with local service and warranty.
