Building Within the Landscape with Jason Frater Builders

While Jason Frater Builders doesn’t exclusively specialise in building within landscapes, their experience on projects like this demonstrates how thoughtful design can result in homes that complement rather than compete with their environment. The Nelson and Tasman regions are renowned for their diverse terrains—steep slopes, rugged coastlines and native bushland—which often require innovative approaches. Fairhill by Jason Frater Builders is a project that saw the Jason Frater Builders team carefully consider the interplay between home and environment, and gave them the ability to utilise their years of experience in the region and deep understanding of the complexities of working on topographical sites such as these. “Having the right contacts and professionals—ones we trust and understand—enables everyone to excel in their area of expertise,” explains Jason. This collaborative network ensures even the most demanding sites are met with innovative solutions.

At the core of the company is a deeply personal approach to service. Jason explains that building strong relationships with clients is crucial to achieving remarkable outcomes. “It’s all about building rapport, understanding their vision, and guiding them through every step of the process,” he says. “Whether they’re new to building or experienced, we’re here to discuss ideas, develop concept plans and provide costings to start the journey.” For those outside of the Nelson and Tasman regions, the team make an extra effort to bridge the distance. “Meeting face-to-face, even if they can’t always be onsite, helps build a strong connection between us and the client,” Jason adds. From initial discussions to project completion, the team ensures clients feel supported and informed, offering reassurance and clarity every step of the way.

This commitment to collaboration extends beyond clients to architects and subcontractors. “Jason is very hands-on with our projects,” says Rebecca. “Having excellent communication with everyone involved ensures the high-end quality we’re known for.” Regular updates keep clients engaged with the progress on site, ensuring that their expectations are met and that any changes or challenges are addressed seamlessly, guaranteeing a smooth and efficient process.

Adaptability is another cornerstone of Jason Frater Builders' approach to construction. Building projects often come with unexpected changes, but Jason Frater Builders is well-prepared to handle them. “By keeping everyone informed and working together, problems can always be resolved,” Jason explains. This proactive approach ensures that every challenge is met with a solution, giving clients peace of mind throughout the construction process. Their genuine focus on people is something that sets them apart from the rest, and Jason and Rebecca prioritise personal service, adding that extra something special to the journey.
