A new combined outdoor lighting and entertainment system

We’re nearing the tail-end of the year – and with summer fast approaching, many New Zealanders are thinking about their outdoor spaces and how they can finally use them now that temperatures are rising.

Kiwis love entertaining in a backyard on a summer’s day – whether it’s a pool party or potluck barbecue, if there’s sunshine and good company, many of us find it hard to turn down. And the continuous wheel of innovation that is technology has enabled us to entertain outside in many ways – often simultaneously, using a single product.

This is true of Targetti’s IVY smart system: a catch-all solution that can be installed in outdoor areas of the home and features speaker systems combined with light fixtures. To learn more about the system, ArchiPro spoke to Ardy Phillips, a lighting consultant at Targetti – who details the ins and outs of IVY, its usage of multiple different technologies, and the benefits of installing it in any outdoor area of the home.

Ardy Phillips: Designed by Stefano Boeri Interiors, the IVY is the first 48V smart system for outdoor spaces. It’s an outdoor lighting system that integrates light, audio and environmental sensors – with the aim of optimising integration with the surrounding architecture and providing maximum functionality for users.

It’s also designed to transform outdoor spaces: they become cosy, relaxing, functional and usable day and night. With the idea of simplifying shapes and creating harmony between architecture, lighting and environment, it is adapted to the different needs and behaviours of the individual.

The project was born from the idea of creating a system capable of encouraging outdoor activities and recreating the comfort of interiors in outdoor spaces.

Ardy: The system allows the connection of accessories and devices used in daily life. From synchronisation with your smartphone for the control and management of light, to the playing of music in the integrated speakers.

Ardy: The elements available are lighting modules, speakers and environmental sensors – all safely housed in an aluminium profile that can be installed either on the ceiling or wall, both surface and recessed.

Linear lighting solutions, projectors and suspensions allow to design a dynamic, surprising and functional light landscape that end users can personalise according to their needs.

We like to say it’s a technological track that provides all the necessary tools for living, working, socialising and relaxing outdoors.

Ardy: Thanks to this flexibility, the user can build a customised system – meaning they can also create several different scenarios.

Thanks to the Casambi interface, the entire system can be controlled and adapted with a smartphone. The speakers are connected using Bluetooth technology, allowing the user to have one system for all their needs.

Ardy: IVY was created in order to create a new relationship between indoor and outdoor spaces, and it aims to redesign the possibilities of outdoor living. 

It's a system with multiple configurations applied in an innovative way to the indoor or outdoor environment, it can be installed in any residential or commercial space both indoors and out in new and existing buildings.

Ardy: Each different element of the IVY can be stored in an attractive aluminium ‘profile’ that can be installed on a ceiling or wall, and can be either on the surface or recessed. There are two standard finishes – ferrite grey and black anodized – to which all the special RAL colours can be added.

The sharp lines of the IVY system, combined with the specific curves of the lighting projectors draw the system toward modern architecturally designed spaces.
