As our homes evolve into intelligent, responsive spaces, the concept of smart home automation takes centre stage, allowing homeowners to harness the power of interconnected devices to create intelligent living environments. Electric home design plays a pivotal role in this paradigm shift, shaping dwellings that not only meet homeowner’s basic needs but anticipate and adapt to their preferences.

Many homes in Australia were built before the introduction of building energy standards, which has resulted in millions of homes wasting too much energy. According to the Australian Government, residential buildings are responsible for around 24 per cent of overall electricity use and more than 10 per cent of total carbon emissions in the country. As a result, houses and apartments with poor energy performance impact the wider economy and the energy grid.

Your Home is a free guide from the Australian Government on how to achieve a sustainable comfortable home that focuses on energy efficiency while saving costs for the homeowner. Electric home design and smart home automation are among the recommendations to elevate convenience, efficiency and security in our homes.

Over 100 years old and with nearly 30 years of experience in Australia in smart home automation, supported globally by Schneider Electric, Clipsal by Schneider Electric provides a comprehensive range of interconnected devices for intelligent living environments.

A Wiser Smart Home adjusts to any lifestyle

Clipsal Wiser Smart Home is a scalable, automated smart home solution that allows homeowners to control a range of features, such as lighting, blinds, garage doors, motorised gates, TVs, air conditioners, and HiFi systems. It also monitors indoor and outdoor cameras, smart smoke alarms and a range of temperature, humidity, water, door, window and motion sensors, remotely or locally via voice assistant with one app. The Wiser app is easy to set up and can grow as lifestyle needs change, making smart devices the dashboard for customising and controlling the home.

Wiser Smart Home products are also compatible with Clipsal's existing wiring device ranges, including Clipsal Iconic switches and sockets, allowing for seamless design and function upgrades.

“When people are building or renovating, they often miss a key piece of the puzzle that is part of their everyday lifestyle, and when planned right, can work seamlessly to make their home living smarter, safer, more stylish and sustainable. This is Electric Home Design,” explains Hayley King, Home & Distribution Channel Marketing Manager at Schneider Electric.

Builder chooses electric home design for his abode

Builder Troy Klemm and Interior Designer Carmel Siciliano-Klemm started with electric home design when building their home. Their business Klemm Homes prides itself on building luxurious properties in Adelaide with careful attention to detail, from the construction materials chosen through to the perfect light switches. For their own home, they chose Clipsal Electric Home Design to create the ideal look, feel and functionality for their property.

A home is not just a house with downlights. We look at vanities that are lit, handrails that are lit, bulkheads that are lit, and lights that turn on and off at different times as you walk up and down a staircase.

A NSW beachfront getaway with smart home automation

Bunker House by Futureflip is a spectacular beachfront property nestled into the hillside at Gerringong on New South Wales’ south coast. The ocean-front home has a raw, stripped-back look and its stone and concrete construction echoes the wartime bunkers dotted along the coast.

Built as a sustainable luxury escape, it combines Clipsal smart home automation with energy efficiency to create a comfortable home embracing full climate control, an outdoor entertaining system and even a Schneider Electric EVlink Home charging station for its guests.

Because this property is used as a holiday rental, it needed to be easy for guests to enter the house and learn how to use the smart home automation. The builder installed Clipsal SpaceLogic C-Bus, a smart home wiring system that controls the property by linking electronic elements, such as lighting, audio-visual, security, appliances, heating and even garden features, in one easy-to-use system managed via touch-screen wall panels and a phone app.

Sustainable New Zealand property embraces the benefits of clever technology

The owners of this energy-efficient home in New Zealand’s Bay of Plenty wanted to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city and live a more conscious lifestyle.

The couple built their home as sustainable as possible. A raised slab filled with 250kg of locally recycled plastic creates a thermal break and regulates the property’s temperature. They also installed a smart hot water system, pre-wiring for solar panels and EV charging for optimised energy efficiencies.
