Why You Should Order Blind and Curtain Samples Before You Buy

Why are blind and curtain samples so important?

Whether you call them samples or fabric swatches, they’re one of the easiest ways to choose window furnishings with confidence. Unlike many home décor purchases, made-to-measure blinds and curtains are created specifically for your windows. Taking a little extra time to choose the right fabric beforehand can make all the difference.

Ordering samples allows you to:

• See colours in your own home’s natural and artificial lighting.
• Feel the texture and quality of different fabrics.
• Compare several options side by side.
• Match your window furnishings with paint colours, flooring and furniture.
• Understand the weave, finish and level of privacy each fabric provides.
• Feel more confident before placing your order.

It’s a simple step that can help avoid second-guessing later.

Colours often look different at home.

One of the biggest surprises for homeowners is just how much lighting can affect colour.

A warm neutral may appear creamy in a north-facing room but cooler in a south-facing space. Bright afternoon sunlight can make whites appear much lighter, while evening lighting may bring out warmer or softer tones.

Viewing samples in the room where they’ll be installed gives you a far more accurate impression than looking at a computer or phone screen alone.

Texture matters just as much as colour.

When choosing window furnishings, colour is only part of the decision.

A smooth roller blind creates a very different look from a textured woven fabric, while linen-look curtains bring warmth and softness that can completely change the feel of a room.

By handling samples yourself, you can appreciate the subtle textures, finishes and quality that photographs simply can’t capture.

Compare multiple options together.

If you’re unsure between a few favourites, don’t limit yourself to ordering just one sample.

Seeing several fabrics together often makes the decision much easier. A colour you loved online might not work as well alongside your flooring or cabinetry, while another option could unexpectedly become the perfect choice.

Laying samples next to each other also helps you identify undertones that may not be obvious when viewed individually.

We also offer some curated best seller packs if you want to look at options that have been popular with our other customers.

Test your samples throughout the day.

Rather than making a decision straight away, leave your samples in the room for a day or two. Move them around the space and look at them:

• In the morning sunlight.
• During the middle of the day.
• In the evening with your lights on.
• Next to walls, flooring and furniture.
• Against any existing blinds or curtains you’re replacing.
• Tape the up to the window glass to see how the light looks coming through the fabric.

You’ll quickly gain a much better understanding of how each fabric will look once installed.

Consider more than just appearance.

Samples aren’t only about choosing a colour you love. They also allow you to compare different fabric types depending on what you need from the room.

For example:

• Sheer fabrics gently filter natural light while maintaining a bright, airy feel.
• Light-filtering fabrics soften glare while preserving privacy.
• Blockout fabrics help reduce incoming light, making them ideal for bedrooms, media rooms and nurseries.

Feeling the fabrics and comparing their construction can help you decide which option best suits your lifestyle.

Buying made-to-measure with confidence.

Because custom blinds and curtains are made specifically for your windows, it’s worth taking the time to feel completely confident in your choice before ordering.

Samples allow you to explore different colours and textures without pressure, helping you visualise how the finished product will complement your home. It’s a small step that can make choosing custom-made window furnishings much easier.
