Enhancing Your Garden Design with Durable and Striking Steel Frames

For architects, landscape designers and specifiers, Straightcurve offers a clever solution to edging and forming a garden's natural beauty. Since its inception in 2015 by Australian founders Joeri Tuijn and Dan Depiazzi, Straightcurve has quickly built a great reputation worldwide for innovation and quality through a clear focus on “making hard jobs easy" - providing the tools to make designing with Straightcurve easy, with even easier installation!

Straightcurve’s commitment to this ethos has been recognised across the country, notably earning the ‘Best In Show Garden’ Award at the NZ Flower and Garden Show for their contribution to the stunning “Jules Zen Garden,” designed by Jules Moore. The Garden also received the ‘Best Construction’ Award, with the judges making special mention of the use of steel in its construction.

ArchiPro spoke to Shane Parker, Straightcurve's National Distributor, to explore the versatility of its products in garden design and how you can use Straightcurve’s Garden Edging for your next project.

“Overall, it’s the engineering that I fell in love with—the way it connects, the quality of craftsmanship, and how the product makes working with it so effortless. The rolled edge, in particular, is a standout advantage, as most steel edges have a sharp, cut top edge,” Shane explains.

Straightcurve Raised Gardens and Retaining Walls allow you to build and brace garden beds and walls into soil and hard surfaces, or connect them to each other.

Zero-Flex Garden Edging offers various heights and panels, along with internal and external corners or straight connections, providing endless design possibilities.

The Benefits of Straightcurve Steel Edging

A standout feature of Straightcurve products is the rolled top edge. Unlike a standard cut edge, the rolled edge offers a safer option with no sharp edges and an architecturally streamlined look. "While the rolled edge is more costly to produce, both the safety and visual impact are well worth the investment for us,” explains Shane.

The entire range of products offers outstanding durability while being easy to install and handle, making Straightcurve an ideal solution for professional landscapers and DIY enthusiasts. "It's a bit like working with Meccano,” Shane quips, "The products come in manageable forms that are easy to assemble, strong and durable."

Flexible and Rigid Solutions for Diverse Needs

Straightcurve has focused on creating products that suit a wide range of garden design needs. Straightcurve’s Flex range, in particular, is designed to be shaped by flexing rather than bending into form, creating beautifully flowing curves, thanks to evenly spaced notches on the steel's inner edge. This adaptability allows the product to be effortlessly customised to accommodate many garden design options—this means everything from 75mm edging through to 560mm planter, raised garden features and retaining.

Straightcurve Rigid allows for strength and minimal movement while granting a strong border for multiple garden heights. If you're looking for a more structured effect for your next garden project, Zero-Flex is the product for you. As the name suggests, there's no flexibility making it the ideal product for long-running garden containment. Like all Straightcurve's products, Zero-Flex can be locked together to create a long-running continuous wall with a maximum height of 560mm. Its size and strength make it a popular option for decorative retaining walls, especially where the wall is to be a feature; this height is also ideal for creating planter boxes.

Straightcurve's Flex Garden Edging is simple to install, delivering a flawless, professional finish.

Straightcurve's Rigid Garden Edging is designed for straight, angular and geometric landscaping designs.

Finishes for Every Aesthetic

The finishing options for Straightcurve products further enhance their versatility. For a rustic, organic finish, there's the ever-popular weathering steel, also known as Corten, which gains a beautiful protective patina as it weathers.

If you prefer a more industrial look, the classic galvanised steel finish makes a contemporary addition to your garden design.

If you want a painted finish—black, white, whatever you or your client would like—galvanised steel is the perfect paintable option. Etch, prime and paint, just as we used to do with all of our roofs in NZ!

Industry Recognition and Real-World Applications

Straightcurve’s products have helped gain them nationwide recognition from New Zealand’s top landscaping and construction companies, with positive remarks based on the elegance of the product paired with the ease of installation, making it a winning combination. Brent Carly, General Manager of Mace Landscape Group, says, "It's great to know we can always rely on the outstanding quality of the product. The ease of the kit-set installation and follow-up service make this a great option for our garden design team. Straightcurve's service is second to none."

Jeremy Cole, Design Manager for Humphreys Landscaping, says, “We like using Straightcurve because it is a quality product that is easy to work with on-site and, once installed, provides a tidy and discrete delineation between lawns and gardens.”
