A vanity range that pays close attention to the latest bathroom trends

In architecturally-designed bathrooms, it’s difficult to outdo a well-designed vanity.

While it’s true that feature bathtubs are often presented as the centrepiece of a bathroom, in cases where the size of the room doesn’t permit such a luxury, vanities often stand in as the primary focal point of the space.

When done right, they also represent one of the most successful marriages between form and function in a bathroom: they act simultaneously as a surface for both a basin and other bathroom miscellania, and this storage is bolstered if they feature drawers. On top of its multiple functions, a good vanity can set the standard of the aesthetic value of a bathroom.

These are the hallmarks that every purveyor of bathroom vanities strives to attain — and that Marcus Wycherley, the sales & marketing director of Newtech Bathroomware, believes is achieved in the company’s newest range of Serenity vanities.

Designed to stand out and add functional value to a space, the range is designed and assembled in New Zealand and can be configured in several different ways.

“We wanted to offer something versatile, which could be easily catered to specific, established design aesthetics,” says Marcus. “And that’s the end product — it's a range that you can mix and match with, based on colour, handle choice, and drawer and overall design.”

The colours included in the Serenity range were carefully chosen, Marcus says, with reference to current international trends — which, in many circles, are currently favouring pastel tones. The range reflects this – offering a suite of eight different shades, including seafoam, cherry blossom, slate grey and indigo, along with a classic matte black.

“This is our first range in a pastel colour palette,” says Marcus, “but with the addition of classic white and matte black, this range has the ability to fit into any established bathroom setting. For new builds or do-over bathroom renovations, we’ve found that a lot of our customers prefer to use the vanity design as the basis for the rest of the bathroom’s aesthetic — and this is why versatility is important.”

But it’s not just the variety of hues that the Serenity range boasts: another significant trend in the bathroom vanity space is drawers. “Having a drawer in your vanity is one of the most practical uses of space in a bathroom,” says Marcus. “It gives you a significant amount of storage space, and when they’re done well they can also look really spectacular.”

The Serenity has a multitude of options for drawer fronts and vanity sizes, ranging from junior sizes for water closets and single tier wall hung vanities, to double tier vanities with two sinks inlaid. Designer drawer fronts, like the ‘fluted’ design, are also available.

Drawer handles can also be mixed and matched, with several options offered to colour match walls or tiles, or to pair with bathroom fittings like tapware.

“The potential of all the different configurations means you can match a vanity with almost any bathroom design,” says Marcus. “The colour, the drawer design and the drawer handles can help modernise a bathroom or make it more traditional, make it sleek or rustic. It’s totally up to the customer or designer – and that’s the real beauty of it.”
