This Bendigo home doesn’t shy away from its history – with original features retained, restored and celebrated.
This Bendigo home explores heritage and adaptive design from a new perspective.
The addition transitions and flows into the sandstone volume without a marked division between heritage and contemporary.
The vertical timber slats and boards contrast with the warmth of the stone.
The addition wraps the original sandstone volume.
Part of the design brief was for the home to “exude delight, charm, compactness and comfort”.
The fireplace can be seen on entry to the home and anchors the lounge area.
Light washes down the restored sandstone wall to accentuate its texture, complemented by a muted charcoal palette.
Known as the ‘music room’, this space is designed for entertaining guests and the enjoyment of music.
The palette remains neutral in the private areas of the home.
The stairs were redesigned to one day accommodate a grand piano.
The existing timber beams have been retained in all of the bedrooms.
