From dark waterfall accents to delicate silver veining, these projects showcase the beauty and versatility of ultra-compact surfaces.

Kitchens and bathrooms are two of the most important rooms in the home, and consequently, they’re spaces you want to get right. When well-designed, these rooms are a pleasure to be in — whether cooking a three-course dinner for the whole family or relaxing in the bath after a long day at work.

Hard surfaces — specifically countertops, splashbacks, flooring, and cladding — are key considerations when designing a kitchen or bathroom. As these spaces handle a high volume of mess daily, from food prep to the kids’ muddy footprints, your hard surfaces must be easy to clean, durable, and non-porous. They also need to be beautiful.

Chosen by designer surface suppliers, Cosentino, for their expert design, beautiful finishes, and luxury accents, these four stunning kitchen and bathroom projects are an ideal starting point for your project mood board.

A mix of modern and classic design by Yellowfox Studio

Designed by Andrea Burney of Yellowfox Studio, this family home features an elegant mix of modern and classic design across the two kitchens, bathroom, and living room fireplace.

“Because the home was to have two kitchens, Andrea felt it was important to use durable yet aesthetically pleasing materials in both,” says Kristina Colina of Cosentino.

“Having worked with Dekton before, the choice was effortless and she decided to showcase the surface in a variety of finishes in other areas of the house.”

Dekton is an ultracompact porcelanic surface available in a range of colours, sizes, and thicknesses suitable for a variety of applications throughout the home. Supplied by Cosentino, Dekton in the colours Entzo, Laos, and Sirius were selected for this project.

“Dekton Entzo is the star of both the living room and the bathroom. In the living room, it elegantly surrounds the fireplace and adorns the three shelves that frame its front. Inspired by Calacatta Gold marble, the realism and natural beauty of the random shapes drawn by its golden veins are perfect for achieving the desired effect of elegance, modernity and aesthetic functionality,” Colina says.

Dekton Laos was used on the kitchen island and the waterfall edges of the back bar, as well as on the worktop and pantry splashback.

“With its dark and weathered tones, it reflects the personality of industrial design, reinterpreting it and showing its most innovative and modern side. Its grey veining and warm tones give it great appeal, and together with its soft matt finish, make it the ideal choice for creating most of today’s contemporary spaces.”

Dekton Sirius is also found on the hearth and the ensuite bathroom vanity countertop. Used in a variety of creative ways throughout the home, Colina says the project emphasises how stone can be used as a focal point in design.

"In bathrooms, where humidity and constant use can be a challenge, Dekton is ideal."
"Dekton Morpheus, with its velvet finish, proved to be the perfect choice for this family bathroom."

A touch of sophistication by Harrisons Group

Renovating a 16-year-old family home, designer Hayley Ring of Harrisons Group chose to revamp the three ensuite bathrooms, removing the traditional tiles and joints in the shower and updating vanity countertops.

“The designer was looking for a material that offered the perfect combination of pattern, colour scheme and finish. Dekton Morpheus, with its velvet finish, proved to be the perfect choice. This finish provides a visually attractive surface that is also extremely practical and easy to maintain, both of which are essential in a bathroom environment. In bathrooms, where humidity and constant use can be a challenge, Dekton is the perfect choice. Its resistance to stains, scratches, heat and daily wear and tear ensures that the space looks spotless from day one with minimal effort,” Colina explains.

The finished bathrooms showcase a beautiful blend of colour used to create a coherent aesthetic that was repeated throughout the home.

A home for two generations by Inherent Design

Balancing contemporary flair for the younger family members while maintaining a touch of classic appeal for the elders, designer Michelle McIlroy had her work cut out.

“Getting the style right from the entrance was crucial. In the quest to combine durability, strength, elegance and design in the home, Cosentino’s range of Dekton finishes was a clear choice. The interior design style was a mix between classic and contemporary flair,” Colina says.

Dekton Portum was used for the entranceway floor, a material choice continued on the floor of one of the bathrooms.

“The open-plan kitchen features Dekton Laos on the worktop, splashback, and island. With its dark and weathered tones, this colour reflects the personality of industrial design, reinterpreting it and showing its most innovative and modern side. Its grey veining and warm tones give it great appeal, and together with its soft matt finish, make it the ideal choice for creating most of today’s contemporary spaces.”

A coastal home full of personality by Melanie Sa’u Design Studio

Passionate about sailing and accustomed to the coastal environment, the homeowners were looking for a space that would reflect their love of the sea, while meeting the demands of their busy lifestyle.

“Located in the tranquil and idyllic Maraetai Beach, New Zealand, this home owned by two local entrepreneurs was transformed into an oasis of calm and modernity by interior design studio Melanie Sa’u. Cosentino products blended in perfectly to the space the design studio was trying to create; a tranquil space that reflected their love for the sea,” Colina explains.

Dektron Trance was used to create a focal point in the kitchen-living area, fitting perfectly with the home’s tranquil coastal atmosphere while adding a touch of modernity to the space.
