What to know when building a new home

Crafting high-quality architectural homes in the Franklin area, the team at VDP Construction has plenty of knowledge and experience – working with clients and architects from the design stage, the specification of products and finishes, to the final result.

“Every architectural build has its unique challenges,” says VDP Construction’s Dan van Tiel. But it only makes it more interesting.”

Previously van der Putten Construction, the company was started over 30 years ago by Harry and Karen van der Putten. Now owned and operated by Dan van Tiel and Rob Boulger, with Harry as a consultant, VDP Construction is the same quality team, delivering the same quality workmanship with Dan and Rob dedicated to continuing the legacy Harry and Karen established all those years ago.

VDP Construction is owned and operated by Dan van Tiel and Rob Boulger.

“Having started as apprentices to now owning VDP Construction, we learned from Harry how to build the proper way with high-quality craftsmanship,” says van Tiel. “Client relationships have also always been paramount during the build and thereafter.”

Now wearing all the hats as business owners, builders, quality surveyors, site managers, health and safety managers and more, it’s been a busy 12 months for van Tiel and Boulger.

“Continuing to build high-quality architectural homes locally under the new VDP umbrella, growing our client base for future work and completing our first two major projects has been a highlight.

“With our knowledge and attention to detail, alongside our carefully selected group of subcontractors, we provide the best results for our clients. At VDP Construction, we build lasting relationships by working closely with our clients so they receive clear communication throughout the entire construction process.”

Setting realistic expectations and budgets

When planning your dream home, the best advice is to get in touch with the build team as early as possible.

“We can help engage with a few selected architects, then go through the process from there – helping and suggesting practical solutions. We manage the build from an empty, bare site to handover with a team of highly skilled subcontractors.”

By engaging expert advice early in the process, realistic budgets and timelines can be established, along with practical advice learned from previous projects.

“You can be certain that every contractor involved in your project is committed to the same high standard upheld by our company,” says van Tiel.

Van Tiel encourages homeowners and architects to engage the expertise of the team as early as possible.

“VDP Construction covers all aspects of residential building, from modern urban homes through to high-end residential constructions, including alterations, additions and complete new builds.

“We keep up with the latest trends, technology and building systems. We offer informed and impartial advice regarding the best building materials and products for your home, to suit both your requirements and your budget.

“Get in touch, come and see our workmanship and meet up with us in person either onsite or in our office. We are also always happy to talk and engage with new architects with our existing projects as this is our passion to build architecturally-inspired homes.”
