A stunning two-storey character home was completely transformed with a serene new extension, expressing the grandeur and elegance of the original building.
The original Arts & Crafts exterior and enclosed veranda were retained.
The entry space is vast and open.
Oak floorboards create continuity throughout.
The home's original stairwell was revitalised.
A formal lounge within the original footprint is given a new lease on life.
Upstairs, light and textural interiors add a contemporary twist on traditional character.
The master bedroom is light and airy.
The master suite transitions to a pale and serene ensuite with freestanding bath.
The upstairs mezzanine is accessed by sculptural stairs, celebrating the contrast of traditional and contemporary.
The curve of the mezzanine banister creates a strong gestural move in the new space.
The new living space transitions seamlessly to the narrow pool at the rear of the property.
The hallway leads to the new extension.
The new kitchen is tucked to the side of the double-height volume open-plan living space.
The curved wall of the mezzanine, looking down over the living and outdoor spaces.
A jaw-dropping stone slab creates drama in the kitchen; the kitchen bar takes place of a traditional island.
The kitchen bar is cleverly designed to hide its storage.
The narrow pool is a clever feat of engineering.
A little island with a tree growing in it in the pool is a whimsical touch.
From the street view, the home is revitalised, yet belies the new contemporary interior.
